There is a stone in Pupukea on the mountain side near Waimea known as the Piliaama stone which has a natural depression on it, said to have been made by a crab. One day a handsome man of low social status lived in the area passed by an Ali'i woman who became captivated by his looks. As she moved towards him he would move away until he took off running which she gave chase. When she had almost caught up to him he leaped off a rock and vanished and the only thing that remained was his footprint in the stone which resembled a crab.
